Challenges

The rail freight terminal operators and Network Rail both had high standards for the provision of health and safety on the site. The works involved a cut and fill operation of approx. 230,000m3 and ground stabilisation. This involved significant plant operations and haulage operations.

Solution

A detailed transport plan was developed. Planned rail outage and liaison with Network Rail. A significant training programme introduced to maintain operatives health and safety knowledge. Establishment of On-Site training facility. Supervisors empowered to co-ordinate their works.

Results

Training undertaken on site. Reduced downtown during training. No RIDDOR reportable accidents.
